Welcome to Colin’s Corner!
“Put yourself in a new position. Take in the perspective and you’re guaranteed to learn…”
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.” -Marriane Williamson
“Colin’s Corner” is one of the primary reasons I made this website. (Mainly because I couldn’t resist the alliteration…) I have witnessed the exceptional results of mindful living, and I want to share what I’ve learned with others. Why? Because Yoga and Ayurveda work. They work towards health and happiness. They work towards love. And these are freedoms I wish to spread.
The sister sciences of Yoga and Ayurveda provide a road map towards discovery of the self, and if you walk the path with diligence, you can guarantee progress. This map has existed for over 5000 years, and is just as accurate and relevant now as it was for the great sages of the ancient Indus valley. It has weathered the test of time due to the simplicity of its message, practicality of its approach and well established path on the way to that universally desired “x.” Unfortunately, many people don’t even know this road map exists! Hence, Colin’s Corner. Basically, it’s like a road map to a road map…
The above quote from Marriane Williamson boggled my mind for years. (Full poem here) How could personal power be more fearful than inadequacy? I finally understood Ms. Williamson once I began seriously practicing yoga. In taking small steps to control my diet, daily habits, and “fluctuations of the mind” I began to witness incredible results. I finally understood how powerful I was. Things stopped “happening to me” as I began taking control of my life one subtle step at a time. This is a scary thought for many people; that everything you are and feel is a direct result of your decisions and attitude. It may even be the “deepest fear.” So buried, it is hard to understand at first. However, once you begin to take control- of your body and your mind – this power is no longer hidden or discomforting but insanely palpable and empowering. The body and mind turn from tyrannical masters to well-tuned instruments which serve your ultimate ‘Self’ (the spirit, soul, purusha, or Atman).
In Colin’s Corner you will find resources you can use to deepen your yoga practice, manage your pain and better your life. It is a small ongoing effort, and by no means exhaustive, but I hope it provides some direction towards realization of the power, potential and true ‘Self’ within.
